Giuliani Finishes In Sixth Place -- For The Fourth Time In Five Primaries

Rudy Giuliani has always held firm that he would win the Republican nomination by focusing his energies on the late-voting, highly populated primary states. As such, the real campaign test starts now, with the GOP field gearing up for Florida's election roughly a week from today.

But it's hard to ignore that on Saturday, in both South Carolina and Nevada, the former New York City mayor finished sixth among his Republican brethren -- for the third and fourth time in five primary elections.

In Nevada, Giuliani grabbed a scant four percent of the vote, compared to Mitt Romney's 51. The Silver State was never the object of much GOP competition and so Giuliani's poor showing there was not entirely unexpected. But in South Carolina, where the former mayor did campaign, he topped out at 2 percent of the vote, with approximately 7,000 votes less than Ron Paul and well behind the 33 percent received by the winner, Sen. John McCain.

With Rep. Duncan Hunter dropping out of the GOP race following today's two primaries, Giuliani is left as the poorest showing Republican in the field. But you wouldn't get that impression listening to his campaign. They argue the GOP race is still wide open. And, having spent more time and resources in Florida save possibly for Romney, they feel positioned to make that risky late-stage run. ... ( read more )
